Irish America

Millions of Irish Americans get the latest news about their homeland from Irish Voice, a weekly newspaper, and Irish America, a bi-monthly magazine. Both of these publications are highly regarded in the United States as the leading source of Ireland-centric news. And both of these publications are produced with the help of Macola Software.

Irish America features articles about a variety of topics, including sports, arts, music, and even Irish recipes. It is available in the United States on select newsstands and also by subscription. Irish Voice is more targeted to late-breaking events, and is also available at selected newsstands and via subscription. Common topics covered in this newspaper include the latest weekly political news, entertainment, sports, and other current affairs.

When this New York, NY-based publisher was just getting started about 14 years ago, it selected Macola's Progression Series software to help organize its financial transactions. Just recently, the firm upgraded from Progression Series 4.0 to the latest version, Progression Series 7.5. Controller Kevin Mangan describes the transition.

"We recently performed a significant upgrade to our hardware," he says. "So we thought that would be the right time to upgrade our Macola system as well."

Macola is depended on to perform some very important functions at this 15-employee, $2.5 million operation.

"We use Macola's General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), and Accounts Receivable (AR) quite a bit," says Mangan. "With the size of our database, we find that we are able to look up older invoices and create mailings targeting our prior advertisers."

Macola is also depended on for running aging reports and invoices. Tasks that Version 7.5 handles with ease.

"I am amazed at Progression 7.5's speed when performing these reports," Mangan continues.

Equally amazing is the work performed by Reference Systems, Inc. (RSI), Irish America's Authorized Macola Business Partner.

"RSI has been very good throughout the entire process," explains Mangan. "They knew our older Macola system just as much as the new one, and this is important for an upgrade like ours. They knew the changes and challenges involved with a process like this. Plus, they are always quick to respond to our needs."

Irish America also runs the Order Entry module on their Windows NT network and Windows 95 operating system.
For this Macola customer, success has come with a lot of planning, hard work, and dedication…and a little luck along the way.
